Fraudster Bernie Madoff's personal possessions go under the hammer...

Disgraced US financier Bernie Madoff's embroidered velveteen slippers are among hundreds of his luxury possessions to go under the hammer this weekend.

A 10.54-karat diamond ring once belonging to his wife Ruth will also be up for sale, along with a pair of leopardprint shoes, a 1917 Steinway grand piano and 15 luxury watches.

Boxer shorts once owned by the jailed tycoon are also to be auctioned off in New York.

Organisers hope the sale will raise more than $1.5m (£900,000), which will go into a fund compensating victims who lost their life savings to his multi-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme. More...
