Mistresses in India set to be compensated if dumped by lover...

India's mistresses could get rights to 'palimony' if their married lovers abandon them, under new rules being considered by its Supreme Court.

The country's top judges are set to rule on the issue after a lower court ordered a married man to pay maintenance to his lover of 14 years after he abandoned her.

Under Indian law, only wives and children are entitled to maintenance payments, but a judge in Tamil Nadu ordered a local man to pay his mistress 500 rupees (£6.50) per month. More...
