Swiss police say a 67-year-old gunman who has been on the run since shooting and seriously wounding an officer had spent years planning his last stand against the authorities.
Police say documents retrieved from Peter Hans Kneubuehl's house in the western city of Biel show the retired mathematician counted down the days to his expected death.
Matthias Herter, a senior police negotiator, told reporters late Saturday that the suspect was a highly intelligent perfectionist who had built defense measures into his house and scouted the local area in case he needed to escape.
About 100 police officers have been deployed to search for Kneubuehl, who holed himself up at home Wednesday in a dispute over the house's sale, opened fire at police early Thursday and then managed to flee. Source...
