Party on a German highway attracts millions...

A string of working-class German towns threw a party Sunday for 2 million people on a grimy freeway where most other days it is clogged with cars and heavy trucks.

One carriageway of the A40 autobahn through Germany's Ruhr Valley urban sprawl was reserved for cyclists and roller skaters, and the other was set aside for demonstrations of aerobics, pigeon-fancying and beer appreciation.

The low-income Ruhr cities in Germany's west have been designated a European Union 'capital of culture' for this year. More...
