Swiss businessman Max Goeldi held in Libya released from prison...

Max Göldi, the Swiss businessman detained in Libya since July 2008, has been released, according to his lawyer.

“He has been freed today and is currently in a hotel in Tripoli,” Salah Zahaf told the AFP news agency on Thursday evening. “We are finalising all the necessary administrative steps so that he can leave the country.”

Zahaf said he could see Göldi returning to Switzerland “on Saturday or maybe Sunday”.

Göldi had served almost four months in prison and was freed two days ahead of the date announced by Zahaf in May. Göldi handed himself over to the authorities in February and was taken to prison in handcuffs to start his jail sentence. More...
