Voters in the eastern Nebraska city of Fremont voted on Monday to ban hiring or renting property to illegal immigrants.
About 57 per cent of residents of the community of 25,000 voted to bar undocumented immigrants from living or working in the town after being angered by a recent influx of Hispanic workers attracted by jobs at local meatpacking plants.
The American Civil Liberties Union already has promised to file a lawsuit to block enforcement of the proposal. More...
