Afghan strangles wife who had become "too Australian..."

A REFUGEE who killed his wife by using her veil to strangle her in their Melbourne home did so in the belief that he was entitled to dominate her, a Supreme Court judge has found.

Justice Betty King yesterday sentenced Pakistani-born Soltan Azizi, 46, to 22 years' jail for murdering Marzieh Rahimi, 33, his wife of 14 years and the mother of their five children.

She said Azizi had shown no remorse over the killing and gave false evidence at trial claiming he had grabbed Ms Rahimi's scarf in an attempt to stop her biting him after she pushed him following a dispute over their toddler. More...
