Rabbits being burned to heat up homes in Sweden?

Swedish people have discovered a grim new way of culling nuisance wild rabbits - by burning them in their thousands to heat their homes.

Animal rights activists have launched a furious attack against the practice, claiming that domestic pets are also being rounded up, shot and incinerated.

Anna Johannesson, from the Society for the Protection of Wild Rabbits, said: 'Those who support the culling of rabbits think it's good to use the bodies for a good cause. More...

  3. Pfft... Not really, what else is a rabbits body going to do apart from degrade anyway. It may not be the best way of going about it but it would certainly cut Carbon Emissions as so many of these Earth lovers keep telling us.

  6. got to say that if these Rabbits are a genuine problem, and there are being culled anyway what's the issue? do goody good shoes want to wake up. It can be a nasty world out there, comes a point where something gives and in this case it's the rabbits. not like they're being burnt alive.

  7. sickening, all those people who agree with this practice should be burnt by swedish people along with their relatives after death to keep the swedes warm, after all they agree with the practice of burning bodies. Burn their pet dogs too of course!!!!!!!!!

  8. If the rabbits are over populating and already being shot and this is just an economical way to produce heat, why not? Okay its a bit weird but its not like they will be used for anything else useful, but if they really are going out there killing thousands of rabbits just to be cosy i think its really cruel, then again i've never been so cold that i would consider burning animals....they must be really desperate...

  9. Wait til you see how these long-eared rats breed exponentially and how they can quickly lay waste to entire fields of food crops - You'll soon be reaching for your trusty ol' shotgun.

  10. I don't agree with this practice.
BUT how would you feel about people burning cows for energy?
I am a vegetarian and agree with all animals and humans having equal rights.
Let's not eat meat, burn rabbits or cows and make the planet a nicer place

  11. I find it interesting that as humans we think animals have equal rights. If you are in a room with a hungy Lion and you try to explain to it that you are a vegetarian will that Lion not eat you? No - because that is nature. Animals eat other animals to survive.

As for the rabbit burning the issue here (as others have stated - is that they have to cull these animals anyway due to the numbers. It is NOT the same as burning cows as these animals are not populating at such large numbers to the point where they wipe out crops.

I find it ironic that as a vegetarian you can not see past this simple point - if you let rabbits breed and do not cull them then they will eat all the crops and as you do not eat meat then you will have no food left to eat. The fact they are burning burned for a use is not sick. They are being killed anyway.

And yes if a human is dead why not put it to use and do the same? We cremate anyway at least this way it would have a use for the deceased human...

  13. i'd be quite happy to be used for something useful after i'm dead, it should be compulsory for politicians as they don't do anything useful while they're alive

  14. where there is a will there is a way....
people should find an alternative way lets not b so cruel n take lives of innocent. we r human being superior than all other animals bcoz we hab a great mind to think and a warm heart to love. lets stop killings n try to make world a better place.
    vaarish..
