Two in three women rescued during raids to tackle people smuggling for the sex trade have since disappeared, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.
Police helped 255 women during Operation Pentameter raids in 2006 and 2008 but 166 of them have dropped off the radar once again.
One academic said it suggested some of the women were not trafficking victims but voluntary sex workers who used the system to get in to the UK, an investigation for More4 News found.
It also questioned Home Office estimates that as many as 4,000 women have been trafficked in to the UK for sexual exploitation. More...
