It is heartening to see the gutsy mayor of a New Jersey town standing up to Muammar Gaddafi, the odious tyrant who just gave a hero’s welcome to Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi. The Libyan dictator plans to stay at a Libyan-owned estate in NJ when he travels to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly next month in New York. Michael Wildes, the mayor of Englewood (pop. 26,353) had this to say about it:
“This is an affront to the 33 families who live in New Jersey and lost their relatives because of him when they blew up Pan Am 103. You can’t buy that back. You can’t give them their lives and memories back… I’m really upset that a financier of terrorism is coming to our shores. This is not acceptable and we need to make sure he does not come. This man embraced a convicted terrorist and is, at his core, a financier of terrorism himself.” More...

Kaddafi’s tent is a distraction from the real outrage here. The mastermind of PAF103 air piracy and mass murder should NOT be allowed anywhere near NYC airspace.
ReplyDeleteIf Foggy Bottom can restrict Libya's NJ residence to "Ambassadorial use only", surely they can restrict Kaddafi from US airspace. Let him come by boat to the UN.
FLASHBACK 1989: JFK Intn’l is where Kaddafi’s mass-murdered Lockerbie dead were forklifted in cardboard boxes for their families to retrieve from airport livestock storage.

JFK is the LAST place Kaddafi should be permitted to set foot. The very idea is yet another agonizing insult to the victims’ families.
