Messages from the British public calling for justice for crimes committed in poverty-stricken East Timor are being delivered to the UK government today, (July 6th), as international development charity Progressio unveils a striking East Timor photo exhibition at the House of Commons.
During the opening of the photo exhibition, which documents the daily struggles of people in East Timor, Progressio will present a montage of messages from the public to Ivan Lewis MP, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
The messages and photos – collected as part of Progressio’s East Timor: Who Cares? campaign – urge the UK to provide financial and technical support for a justice centre in the young South East Asian country to promote accountability for brutal crimes committed during 25 years of Indonesian occupation from 1975-1999.
