Politicians in India are promising gold and cost-free weddings to get elected!!!

Instead of the usual chant of Govinda Govinda in this temple town, candidates in the fray from Tirupati assembly constituency are chanting "goldinda goldinda" (here's gold, here's gold) to woo the over 2.3 lakh electorate — over 50% of them being women — by playing on divine sentiment to the hilt.

Moving away from doling out traditional gifts like saris, rings and nose pins to women voters, the candidates are now offering gold dollars of Lord Balaji, free cellar darshan tickets and Kalyanamastu-type free marriages. Sources said the contestants are keen to cash in on the Lord of riches by showering celestial gifts to women.

A candidate, on condition of anonymity, said: 'We know that women voters love saris, nose pins and rings. But this time, we have decided to woo them by distributing 2gm gold coated dollar emblems of Lord Balaji. Each dollar costs Rs 3,000. Nothing sells like the divine sentiment among the voters," the candidate added. More...
