The woman who gave birth to octuplets: dream or nightmare?

Her amazing story was seized on as a ray of sunshine by a nation in the grip of economic meltdown.

Following fertility treatment, Nadya Suleman, 33, had given birth to eight babies, all of whom survived.

It was only the second time in American history that such a large multiple birth had succeeded.  

And for a few days the story shared the news headlines with the first week of the Barack Obama presidency.
