Already 14 journalists killed this year...

During the month of January, 14 journalists were killed in seven countries, a Geneva-based watchdog group announced Monday, calling for better protection of reporters, dpa reported.

The Press Emblem Campaign said four journalists were killed in the Gaza Strip, along with two in Russia and another two in Venezuela. In Pakistan, three were killed, including two incidentally during a suicide attack. The third reporter was assassinated.

The first death of the year came on New Year's day in Somalia.

Last year, the organization registered the killing of 91 journalists, a slight decrease from 2007.

The campaign also called for better access for journalists in certain areas of Sri Lanka, where a prominent editor was killed last month, and criticized the ban on entry for reporters to the Gaza Strip during the recent Israeli offensive.
