Chinese superstar Gong Li has been branded a traitor by her native country for taking up her husband's Singaporean nationality.
The 43-year-old actress, who stared in Hollywood big budget films like "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Miami Vice," took a citizenship oath for Singapore during the weekend. Her Singaporean tobacco tycoon husband Ooi Hoe Soeng accompanied her.
Since Beijing does not allow double nationality, Li will have to give up her Chinese citizenship, a fact that doesn't sit well with her fellowmen.
