Sri Lankan refugees in India's Tamil Nadu to be given citizenship...

In a significant move, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Saturday asked the Central Government to offer citizenship to the nearly one lakh Sri Lankan Tamils living as refugees in the State for several years, if they so desired.

A resolution, read out by DMK treasurer and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, was adopted at the valedictory of the year-long celebration of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai’s birth centenary at his native place Kancheepuram on Saturday.

The resolution said the State should hold discussions with the Central government for their resettlement. It should also make arrangements for their livelihood. More...
