Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing Dr.Jimmy Page...

LED Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has been awarded an honorary degree by the University of Surrey.

The rock legend accepted a Doctor of the University degree for his services to the music industry.

During the ceremony at Guildford Cathedral, Page also signed a guitar which will be put up as a competition prize at this year’s GuilFest.

The guitarist was born in Middlesex in 1944, and he grew up in Epsom where he developed a passion for both painting and music.

Led Zeppelin's classic hit Stairway to Heaven was composed at Headley Grange near Hindhead.

The band drew on a range of influences to produce a string of legendary albums which have, to date, sold more than 300 million copies.

The enduring popularity of Led Zep was highlighted at last year’s reunion concert at The O2 arena in London.
